My frist times....

First time shooting a wedding was fun and sweating! It's going to take some time to sort out the good pics. Hopefully I can get the permission from the newlyweds and share with you later on.

First time volunteering in SIFF was a good one too! The work was nothing at all--just picking up garbage, handing out ballots, and collecting them back. And you got a free seat to watch the movie! The King was what on the screen today. A very tragic dark story around a pastoral family. It was quit thought provoking--what does it really mean to be a Christian?

THE KING

"The King" is a controversial and provocative thriller starring international sensation Gael Garcia Bernal ("The Motorcycle Diaries", "Bad Education", "Y tu mama tambien") and screen legend William Hurt ("Kiss Of The Spider Woman", "The Big Chill").

Elvis is a handsome and charismatic 21-year-old just out of the navy who walks through the world with an effortless charm, and seems to be the very embodiment of hope and enthusiasm.

He heads to a sleepy Texas town dreaming of some kind of reconciliation with the father who abandoned him as a child, only to find that he has become a Pastor with a new family - wife Twyla and teenage children Malerie and Paul.

When Pastor David subsequently rejects Elvis once again, Elvis puts in place the ultimate test of faith; and when the very innocent Malerie finds herself succumbing to Elvis' charms, a tragedy of truly biblical proportions is unleashed.

Also starring Laura Harring ("Mulholland Drive") and newcomer Pell James, "The King" is directed by James Marsh, who co-wrote with Oscar-nominated screenwriter Milo Addica ("Birth", "Monster's Ball"), and produced by Ed Pressman whose credits range from "Badlands" through to "American Psycho".

Hauntingly filmed with a dark dreamlike intensity, "The King" was officially selected for Un Certain Regard at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival and played to acclaim at the 2005 London Film Festival.

Volunteering SIFF

Wow this Memorial Day Weekend is going to have a lot memories since I am going to volunteer over the three days:

My friend's wedding is just around the corner!!! I was asked to shoot pictures for them... fortunately they hired a couple of professionals or else I will freak out.

My other friend was teasing me... "Make sure you don't block the pro!"

My first BW prints + 想家...

The BW processing and printing class was really fun and useful. I learened a lot of things from film loading, mixing chemicals, to setting the right exposure and choosing various filters. Looks like I'm going to take up yet another hobby...

I received a call from parents today... mom said dad's legs are soring and he has some other non-critical issues.

When I hung up the phone, 忽然很想家...

Last night, my friend asked if I would bring Sassy along with me if I were to move back to Toronto. I pondered. Am I done with my "mission" in Seattle? Is it time to go back home?

Cooking @ 2am

Since I'll have a class tomorrow from 9-5, so I just have to start cooking @ 2am :-) Here's almost all the ingredients for tomorrow's dinner!!



There are a few ingredients that I've never used before, like this funny shaped palm sugar--if you don't know yet, it's from the sap of palm tree. Getting the sap from the palm tree is pretty dangerous since workers need to climb up the tall tree.



Oh, I found out this interesting label from a sauce bottle. Pretty silly but fun!

故事最後, Phantom得到了Christine同情而溫柔的吻.. Phantom放手了，讓子爵帶著Christine離去。因為他的愛已經昇華了, 也終於體會到愛的美麗。

urge 有點太過 + flickr is hiring

At first glance the MS music storefront "Urge" is pretty attractive. A big catcha though is that if you stop subscribing to their service, currently priced at $150/year, you will never be able to play the music again... isn't it 有點太過?

It also welcome devices with MS platform only, so I guess my w800i 無用武之地...

Life's so boring these two days because of the transition, so I browsed around the web and found out that flickr is now hiring! Looks like they shoot for doing business differently. Take a look at the requirements:

• A passion for the web and the possibilities it affords for new forms of human interaction and community
• A strong tolerance for office tomfoolery (acting like a monkey, etc.)
• A desire to change the world

Talking about them, I don't really like their Gamma version. May be I just get too used to their previous UI...

The Walla Walla trip was a surprisingly fun and self discovering trip! I didn't expect the trip could be full of excitment, mainly because of the size of the town. However, there were a lot of surprises along the way.

It's been a while I learned cooking in a class since seconday school (yup, guys in our school needed to take "home economics"). Tempted by their 2-for-1 promotion during the mont of May, a friend of mine and I joined their Thai cooking class this evening at Blue Ribbon Cooking, with cook Pranee as our instructor.

On the menu were:
Yam Neua, Beef mint sald; sliced grilled beef sirloin steak with mint and toasted rice powder
Tom Kha Gai, Chiken in sweet and sour coconut milk soup with Kaffir lime leaf and lemongrass
Phad Thai
Kao Neow Mameung, sticky rice in cocount milk with sliced mangoes

I like the Yam Neua the best, partly because that's the only dish we involved :P yeah, there were many people tonight so we didn't get a lot of hands on experience.

One interesting was that when Pranee went off to get a glass of water right after she tasted her own food :P it wasn't a good sign, was it?!

Well, the food turned out to be pretty good, and I learned a good trick of how to test whether the steak is well done, medium rare, or rare.

The sunset on Lake Union was beautiful!

I went by Whole Foods yesterday and got some beautiful tulips...

A few of us went to the Taiwanese Night Market at UW. We got there at almost 6 and there were a lot of people already and long lines were everywhere!

The food was OK lar, not the best you can get in Seattle. In fact some of them were bad as quality was compromised to meet people's need quickly.

However, there was one booth we watied THREE hours to get the food.... Taiwanese sausage 烤香腸!

Well, we didn't actually waited in the line for three hours since someone in our group asked a friend who was in the line to get us some :-) But we did, at the end, waited for more than 40 minutes (and it was getting cold too) to get a hold of the sausage!

Was it worth the wait?

Absolutely!

I liked the sausage very much! It tasted like 豬肉乾, and it was really juicy!!

The March of the Penguins is an absolutely stunning, beautiful documentation!

Hopefully I'll meet them face to face in Antarctica, and thank them for teaching me the importance of determination!

Looks like Utah's Zion, Arches, Bryce Canyon, etc are on the top of the list for the autumn trip!



I have successfully sold my D50 and the lens :-) and replaced it by F100 that I got from ebay for less than $300! The seller is a pro photographer so hopefully the camera is in good working condition.

The 18-200 has a long waiting list so I guess I'll just rent the lens for now. $15 for a weekend which is not bad at all.

Hopefully I can take some good BW photos for my darkroom processing workshop at PCNW.

silly sassy

My neigbour's little girl gave me a basket of wild flower the other day, and since Sassy likes (to eat) flower a lot, she usually messes up the floor and makes me angry.

But this time, look at what she did to herself!

So tired, muscle so sore... I think I caught some bugs from my housemate....

Meeting at O'Hare isn't a bad idea! Haha finally some one shows the inerest to see the architectural arts in Chicago. I think it'll be more beautiful when the leafs start turning color!

This year's review process is pretty good--at least it helped motivating me to move on in this career path!

After the Scandanavia trip, I started to love anything that's Nordic (except the food), like this strange but very good Danish band Mew.
